Chocolate Dipped Peanut Butter Stuffed Bugles

A super fun and easy treat with Bugles snack crisps stuffed with peanut butter then dripped in melted chocolate.

When I was a little girl we lived out in the country. Well, really, until I went off to college, we lived out there.

'Out in the country' means driving 30 minutes to get to the nearest supermarket or new car lot in my book. We had a small general store, a teeniny grocery store, a diner and a few gas stations but that was about it.

Mama went "to town" to get her hair done when the time came and I always loved going with her so much. I loved looking at all the ladies sitting under dryers smoking cigarettes and reading magazines, listening to them gossip.

I also loved that Mama would give me a dollar and let me walk next door to the Revco where I'd peruse each aisle looking for exactly what I was going to spend my money on.

It's funny how we could do that back then... just let our kids wander. If anyone did that now someone would call social services on them.

I could always count on three things when we went to town to get Mama's hair done. 1- She'd look like Elizabeth Taylor when we left out of there. 2- I'd get my free time and surcee from the Revco and 3- On the way home we'd either stop at Fat Boys and get a butterscotch milkshake or we'd pop into the gas station and get Cokes and Bugles.

I absolutely love Bugles. To this day. And sometimes I wonder how much of it is about how delicious they are and how much of it is because they're tied to good memories?

Regardless, I still buy them and my kids LOVE them. One day The Boy asked if he could dip his in peanut butter. Which he did and declared them to be delicious that way. Then Baby Girl suggested we dip them in melted chocolate too.

And so we did! And they are now the National Snack of the Rivers House. We make these every Christmas to go along with our cookies and candy and sometimes we make them just because.

They are salty and creamy and sweet and crunchy all at the same time and I don't have to convince you that peanut butter and chocolate were just made to go together!

The powdered sugar makes the peanut butter very much like the peanut butter in a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup so don't skip that step!

Enjoy!

A super fun and easy treat with Bugles snack crisps stuffed with peanut butter then dripped in melted chocolate.

ingredients:

  • 1 7.5-oz. bag of Bugles
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 12-oz. bag chocolate chips

instructions:

How to cook Chocolate Dipped Peanut Butter Stuffed Bugles

  1. Cream peanut butter and powdered sugar together with an electric mixer until creamy (about a minute). Fill a piping bag or plastic zip-top bag with peanut butter mixture (if using the zip-top bag, just snip a small hole in one corner - I have better luck with just a plain ol' zip-top bag).
  2. Pipe the peanut butter mixture into each Bugle until just full. You won't be able to use all of the Bugles because some are duds with flat openings but it's OK, you'll have enough good ones.
  3. Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave then dip the open ends of the stuffed bugles into the chocolate. Set each on aluminum foil or parchment paper for several hours or until chocolate is firm again.
  4. Store in an air-tight container (or else the Bugles will get stale).

  4. I did these with white chocolate at Christmas time and then dipped the tips of the bugle as well and made them look like little Santa hats. Very cute and tasty, sweet, salty snack all in one! I liked them.

Hi there! While I’m not able to respond to every comment, I try hard to answer any questions that haven’t been addressed in the post, recipe or in other comments.

I can tell you now 1) I have no idea if you can substitute Minute Rice or brown rice in my recipes because I’ve never used them and 2) If I know how to convert a recipe to a Crock Pot version, I will make a note about it (otherwise, I don’t know).

And though I may not respond to them all, I do read each and every comment and I LOVE to hear from you guys! Thanks, y’all! - Mandy
