Peanut Butter Blotto Brownies

You know how some of the most famous works of art and pieces of music were created by artists who were either high as Georgia pines, chronically drunk or just bat sh!t crazy? Well, I think inspiration struck me during the worst fever I've ever had.

I found out I had pneumonia last Tuesday night when I dragged myself into an Urgent Care after being really sick several days. I'd had a raging fever since the weekend and during those days I had some of the best ideas for recipes. Also? I came up with most of these while I thought I was with my deceased grandmother cooking them in her kitchen. It was so real, y'all. It was like when everyone took the peyote in 'Young Guns'... "Hey Dog, did you see the size of that chicken?!?". Yeah, I was blotto.

Anywho, if you were tuned into my Facebook page Sunday night you might have caught wind of the following posts about a brownie idea I had:

SYM - August 12 - 7:49PM
I somehow managed to come home from the beach sick as a dang dog. I'm pretty sure I'm having a fever dream and this isn't real BUT I just had a wicked idea for brownies and I'm trying to talk Husband into cooking them for me while I shout instructions from the nest I've made for myself in the den. Don't y'all think chopped up peanut butter bars (like Little Debbie ones), chocolate chips, peanut butter and a brownie mix could equal something amazeballs?! HUSBAND!!! They said YES! GET YOUR ASS IN THE KITCHEN!!!

SYM - August 12 - 8:27PM
He won't make the brownies. He just keeps flipping me off every time I shout, "HUSBAND!" Also? 'Puss in Boots' is scary. That egg is giving me the stank eye.

SYM - August 12 - 8:51PM
Husband is being as helpful as a box of hair.

Alas, a week later, I'm finally on the mend and made the brownies for you. I must say these are my favorite that I've come up with yet. Maybe because I made them with Nanny when I was three sheets to the wind.

Peanut Butter Blotto Brownies
1 family-size box brownie mix (18-oz)
Eggs, oil & water for the brownies
1 12-oz. bag chocolate chips, divided
1 1/2 cups peanut butter
1 cup roasted peanuts, chopped
8 Nutty Bars*, chopped

Line a 13x9 baking pan with aluminum foil and spray generously with cooking spray. Prepare and cook brownie batter per package instructions for a 13x9 pan.

Remove the brownies from the oven and sprinkle with 1/2 cup chocolate chips (they will start to melt a bit but just leave them be).

In a medium pan, melt peanut butter and remaining chocolate chips over medium-low heat, stirring constantly until melted and smooth. Remove from heat and stir in chopped peanuts.

Sprinkle chopped Nutty Bars evenly on top of brownies and chips. Pour melted chocolate and peanut butter mixture on top of Nutty Bars. Cool for 30 minutes then refrigerate until firm. Remove brownies from pan and cut into servings.

*Little Debbie Nutty Bars are layered bars of crispy wafers and peanut butter covered in chocolate. If you can't find them, try something similar (about 4 cups).

  7. Had something similar to this a few weeks ago from a catering company then I found your recipe which looked similar. They used the new reese's sticks wafer bars but to me they taste just like a Nutty Buddy, just more expensive. I made these today and written and they are great! My new favorite brownies! If you read this... Make these and share them with others.

  8. I'm currently about to make these amazing things. And I noticed it says eight bars, is this 8 packages (2 in each package) or eight individual bars? which would be four packages. I'm just curious and because I love these I will use eight packages if I don't get an answer before I start to cook

Hi there! While I’m not able to respond to every comment, I try hard to answer any questions that haven’t been addressed in the post, recipe or in other comments.

I can tell you now 1) I have no idea if you can substitute Minute Rice or brown rice in my recipes because I’ve never used them and 2) If I know how to convert a recipe to a Crock Pot version, I will make a note about it (otherwise, I don’t know).

And though I may not respond to them all, I do read each and every comment and I LOVE to hear from you guys! Thanks, y’all! - Mandy
